- found this amusing, and we all need a laugh, so I'm posting to share the LOL's.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

(here's my favorite 'answer')

Tolkien: Chickens are respectable folk, and well thought of. They never go on any adventures or do anything unexpected. One fine spring day, as the chicken wandered contentedly around the farmyard, clucking and pecking and enjoying herself immensely, there appeared a Wizard and thirteen Dwarves who were in need of a chicken to share in their adventure. Reluctantly she joined their party, and with them crossed the road into the great Unknown, muttering about how rude the Dwarves were to take her away on such short notice, without even giving her time to brush her feathers or fetch her hat.

day 17 → an art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.)

Lookie what [livejournal.com profile] hotmarscube made for me!! My very own ceramic STARGATE!!!! Isn't it just the most awesomest thing? :) (the center is a mirror that's showing my ceiling in this pic) I asked [livejournal.com profile] hotmarscube for a Stargate when he was making these cool spaceships of clay. He's always been super talented with 3D sculpting, and his clay stuff has been very neat. So, I was like, hey, you can do spaceships - how about a stargate. And he did! He made me this for christmas and then surprised me :) I was waiting to post in the 'art piece' meme day and then had to take and upload the pic, so it took me longer.

argh! I fail at posting every day. So, here's some piece-meal catchup.

day 30 → whatever tickles your fancy

Flooding! :) I'm an admitted looky-loo at accidents and flooding. With the massive rains two weeks ago, the San Diego river was flooding like crazy in Fashion Valley. I got off work early one day and managed to take pictures to share before it got dark.

This is the back entrance to Fashion Valley, which often floods, but this is the most I've seen it in a long, long time. The lower level of Fashion Valley parking was also flooded, as well as the back road. Now, the parking was built to flood on the lower level to keep the water off the top levels, and that worked.

The other end Fashion Valley road, which doesn't flood as often. Wow, there was a LOT of water this storm system!!

So, no snow - but here's water!

day 13 → a fictional book

Oh my, the choices, the choices!

In His Majesty's Service by Naomi Novik. What's not to love? England! Dragon's! Napoleonic era! It's like she hit all my hot buttons in one novel! :)

day 14 → a non-fictional book

I don't actually read a lot of non-fiction. Hey wait - does the LOTR visual dictionary count? no? hmm..

This is one of the few I own. As Always, Jack: A Wartime Love Story by Emma Sweeney on Amazon. I actually read a review of it in a magazine my mom had, a very short blurb that sounded interesting. Interesting enough to check out at a book store. After much searching (because I only sorta remembered the info and didn't have the magazine to check), I was able to find it and I've since read it several times, tearing up each time. It's basically a romance told via letters written by a soldier to a girl from San Diego he met before being shipped off just after WWII. You only have the soldiers letters, and not the replies and this was lovingly laid out by the daughter he never got to meet.

I tried to save to upload a pic of the covers...... and that flash thing gets me every time. It's getting frustrating that I can't click on the pictures to save them. What, they'd rather be hotlinked??

day 12 → whatever tickles your fancy

Since you all enjoyed the New Zealand pics - here's some more of the fun to be had at the LOTR:ROTK premier in 2003

Arrow in building - which was opposite a huge picture of Legolas hanging on the building across the street :)

day 07 → a photo that makes you happy

I know, I know. Late on this one. But I saw Sherlock Holmes on Thur night and was so bouncy that I wanted to post of picture from it - then when I got home late, tried to get a picture off the internet - only to be stumped everywhere I looked by flash and explorer not letting me click on any pictures. FRUSTRATION. So, I went to bed. Today, I finally found a place I could actually download a picture from.

I want to see it AGAIN! Wow - the slashyness! One of my FL was right - oh my, Holmes was pouting and asking Watson on dates all over London! LOL!

day 05 → your favorite quote

This is hard. I don't really have a "favorite" quote. Here's a few that I find amusing.

(Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring):
Pippin: ... What about second breakfast?
Merry: I don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip.
Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he?

(Ghostbusters):
Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say "YES"!

day 04 → your favourite book

I'll have to go with The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien here.

day 03 → your favourite television program

Oh, and like this is ANY surprise.... Stargate: Atlantis!! :)
winter_elf: Sherlock Holmes (BBC) with orange soft focus (Not Normal-Daniel)
day 02 → your favorite movie

ohhh... a hard one. I have a LOT of 'favorite' movies!

so would it be the one I saw the most in the theater? That would be LOTR:Fellowship - 13 times.

or the movie I have the most copies of - which would be Star Wars (4,5 & 6). We won't talk about my cursing for having to RE-BUY this all the time - from original VHS, to WS VHS to special edition VHS to DVD with both versions.... to DVD widescreen. *sigh*

I also own about 4 different copies of the original Stargate movie (with Kurt Russel) - VHS, DVD, then DVD 'special edition' to a special edition named something else which I thought they added more... and they keep doing that - renaming so I think it's something new.

I'm lucky I don't have a HD TV and a Blueray player. I can see re-getting ALL of these again.

day 01 → your favourite song

'Uninvited' by Alanis Morissette from the City of Angels soundtrack. I bought the soundtrack for that song. :)

Of course, tomorrow I might decide it's 'May It Be' by Enya or....

The final day goes out with a bang - or I was having too much fun to make a post yesterday.

Hanging out with my bud [livejournal.com profile] songwood, hitting two bookstores, acquiring 7 books; the comic book store where I finally got my Stargate Magazine; lunch, a movie and finally dinner than back to her place to read our loot.

It was a great day.

Books: Jim Butcher's newest hardcover Turncoat - as well as my line number for his signing; a Supernatural fantasy and 5 romances. Lets see - a woman who talks to ghosts, a fantasy romance, a spy, a werewolf guy and a rake. Yep. The usual.

The movie: Duplicity - a little romantic spyish twister. It was cute and trippy and engaging and we enjoyed it.

What makes me happy - it's Friday! Hanging out with a friend, watching TV and being catty to it and having dinner. As well as working on icons for the [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_icontest. If only there was new SGA to watch during our 'Sci-Fi Friday' get togethers. Oh well, can't have everything.

Not working late, meeting up with friends for the evening, snuggling with kitties, catching Top Gear being silly on the TV. Lots of McShep smooching to read! :P

All in all pretty good day.

Eight Days of Happy: Day Five....

otherwise known as THANK GOD ITS OVER!! No more weekends! No more 10+ hour days! Today was a fairly slow day (no panicking clients - that was Monday), then I had to brave the traffic to hit the main post office branch open till late with the few late pieces of mail. Wow, good thing for back roads, because the whole drag from the freeway to the post office was wall to wall cars, three lanes of going nowhere fast!

Duty done, I then headed to Red Lobster for a fish dinner complete with desert. Yum.

And my sinus infection/cold thingie was only a very minor annoyance today.

Happy things today:

My mom made me a yummy pasta & veggie casserole for dinner so I could just crawl home and heat up.

[livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch opens and promises lots of little kissing ficlets to read; and [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel posts Shore Leave
