So many long stories, so many to choose from! Yay! Here's the [livejournal.com profile] atlantisbigbang stories I've read so far. More soon! I'm going to spend my weekend reading! Wheeeee!

Dragonlord by Icarus Dragons. Pern. Really, what more do I need to say? I really enjoyed this – and it’s nice and LONG.

Against all odds by ca_pierson and darkmoore I kind of have a thing for soulbonding... so yea, this hit all my buttons

Giving the Devil His Due by Telesilla Loved seeing more of this dark!AU verse. Very, very hot!

Mightier Still by meansgirl AU with our SGA group as superheroes! Or, well... trying to be! :) And there are those pesky supervillians!

Charming Demeter's Daughter by Wolfshark okay, so I read it early, but it still counts! I love stories where Atlantis is on its own, so this is a nice fork-in-the-road story.

EVIL I tell you. With a super easy way to bid on-line and felixable about payment. *sigh* My CC's hate me. Looks around. I think some dolls are going to get sold, because I was very weak on the lure of Stargate props....

For those of you dying to know what I won ...... )

Atlantis Big Bang is LIVE! Lots of LONG/LONG/LONG stories to read and art to be amazed at!

2010 stories

2010 art

I did two pieces of digital artwork for Charming Demeter's Daughter . Here's my artwork. I was super excited that not only did I get to read a story ahead of the release, but I also got to do art for an writer I knew and read her LJ :)! Score!

Also a big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star for artistic handholding. I haven't done too many challenges, so was a little nervous on how it all looked.

ABB must have gone live early, early this morning? I wish I could read all day.. but... uhm.. I'm watching/bidding on the live Stargate prop auctions. *sigh* I wanted a ZPM - but they went for over $5,000 - all of them. *cries*

I HAVE won one auction so far - Marshall Sumner's Dog Tags!
Yea, I know, but everything Sheppard went high, high, high.

ETA: I'm very, very, very bad. And broke. *sigh* I won another - and for more than I was thinking to pay. (+fees and +sales tax and yikes)

[livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match recs, pt 3.

I have finally finished and voted for every story. Go ME!

Here's the final set of ones I've especially enjoyed this year. Though, I enjoyed every story, some just hit me a little stronger than others. A huge thank you to all the hard working writers and artists! 30 days of art and stories! OMG! Such a pleasure to read them all.

Ain't That A Kick In The Head (Team Work): Nice action-packed teamy adventure with good bits for all. I liked the heavy h/c elements, and working in of events in John's past and how it affected him.

A Question of Quantum Physics, Molecular Attraction and Timing (Team Work) : Long AU with plenty of sex and fun and games between John & Rodney. Loved the guessing game John proposed instead of telling Rodney what he did for a living.

Beyond The Pale (Team Work): Art. Some really great art this year. I enjoyed all the elements to this one as a DVD cover – not only clips that tell a story (and look at all the naked ones!), but also clever puns in the DVD description of the 'movie'. LOL.

Cloud Nine (Team Work): A long AU about everyone working in the weather industry/weather stations. I loved all the attention to detail, and even knowing NOTHING about it, found the information given was not confusing - and I learned something too!

And a third set of pics from Joe & David's talk in Chicago. I actually had a lot more worth posting than I thought originally. Of course, a lot are very similar, so for this final set, I was looking through and trying to pick ones that had a different expression or position.

and yet more pics of Joe & David... :) )

And here is another set of pictures from Saturday :) I was taking pictures, so I remember enjoying the panel and laughing..... but you'll have to get the written reports from others.

and many more Joe & David! )

Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett on stage together for 90 minutes. It could have been all day and I would be happy! :) Lots of banter, lots of joking, lots of laughing, and lots and lots and lots of fun. I didn't take any notes - I was busy with taking tons of pictures.

Someone asked me if how it was different from the 2010 Vancouver convention. Well, there, they split them up, so it was Joe for 30 min, David for 30 min then together for 30 min. Here it was all 90 min together - which was a lot of fun. Also, when someone asked a question just for one, the other would pout or make a production out of it for fun.

And yes, while I did take a lot, a large number of them are blurry. That far away, the lens is slow to react in the low light to movement of the actors. So for every clear one, I've got like 10 or 20 blurry ones. Though sometimes it's one is clear and the other blurry. *sigh*

and more and more and.... :) )

Last guests of the day - the wraith duo of Andee Frizzell and Christopher Heyerdahl. I had seen both individually, but not on stage together. The jokes were flying and much laughter was to be had. They love to play the villains, and when they came on stage, Andee joked - oh look, dinner! Be sure to lock the doors now. You're all here and not escaping! Andee did do a lot of the talking with Chris a more quiet partner, but he wasn't shy about commenting and adding in. A shame he didn't remove his hat.

I then decided to do the duo Wraith photo-op, so rushed out to get a ticket. A large number of people just took the standard picture. I asked for the wraith treatment and it came out really good :) I had them both sign the picture and Andee loved it and drew in the 'hand gina' as she calls the wraith feeding slit. LOL.

I'm calling this 'Wraith Ascending'. LOL. So blurry its now artistic! :)

1st guest I saw on Friday was Robert Picardo. He's a real joker and amusing to listen to. Also, my god, the lighting was HORRIBLE for him - a fact even =HE= saw (it made his bald head glow), and kept trying to keep back and away from the front stage lights - which made him even darker and more in the shadows. He joked about how often he gets cast as a 'dick' named 'dick'. :)

This is what I was bemoaning in my first post, as with lots of pictures and very, very few that were use-able.

He was also a scream at the Friday night Cabaret show, where he did several songs and was wearing a 'rug' as his alter ego of 'Alphonso'. His wife also was there and came on stage.

Stargate Saturday was awesome. I beat my camera into submission. I took about 900 pictures of David and Joe, and I've got some that are decent. Here's a teaser. :) I'm busy looking at, formatting and *sigh* deleting. A lot are fuzzy. And, some of them laughing and moving and teasing each other are way fuzzy.
winter_elf: Sherlock Holmes (BBC) with orange soft focus (Hot! John)
I'm here and my pictures SUCK! *sobs* I'm so disappointed in Friday's pictures. I mean, there one that's so bad its now into artistic territority. My camera is good enough to get decent shots from my seat. I've gotten decent pics from a supernatural con from WAY farther away... and yet the lighting here is worse than ever :( I'm down to begging those I know who have a)better lenses/camera and b) seats for copies.

Joe is here and wearing a white shirt (YAY for picture purposes!). His talk with David starts soon. I'm just doing a quick bit of surfing first.

I leave 'god-awful' early am friday morning for Creation's Chicago Stargate con. I hope to meet up with a number of my LJ Flist. I'm in seat O16 and staying in the host hotel.

Leave a note or send me a PM if you're going to be there and where you are. I'm open for breakfast or dinner if someone wants to meet up! Only plans so far is breakfast on Sat. Though now that the schedule has moved earlier, I need to see if that's still okay!

[livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match recs - part 2!

I'm slowly getting caught up again. Some NICE long stories posted - argh! So I got behind. I still have some to read. Here's some more of my favorites.

"You’re Cool, I’m Fine" (Team Work). OMG –John and Rodney as ACTORS – and doing conventions – and the ‘slash’ question from fans. John hiding he’s really gay, Rodney totally clueless on all of the above. I’m laughing so hard I’m crying.

When There's Nothing Left to Burn (you have to set yourself on fire) (Team Work) Art. Lovely and very moody – which fits the prompt extremely well.

Running Tally (Team Play) A happy John so freaks out Rodney that he’s looking around for pod people. (and being totally oblivious) A very sweet story.

Summer Vacation (Team Play) Art. Beautiful with great use of color, motion and shadows.

Mamihlapinatapai (Team Play) Some lovely world building and an awesome festival that has the boys all cuddly together. I’ve done meteor shower watching – and it was never this much fun!

Who Could Claim the Sky (Team Work) AU with some outstanding world building including: mythical creatures, defeat, evil overlords, Todd in all his twisty Wraithy glory, historical notes and triumph.

[livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match has started and I've been doing better this year with keeping up on my reading and voting! Whee!! Some great stuff – so go check it out. And some long stories already too! Posted early so I had time to read them. I got in a bind last year with a bunch of long ones at the end and couldn't read and vote fast enough. I also really liked the teams this year: 'Work' and 'Play'.

Here are my favorites so far:

Sheppard's Pie (Team Play): Pie, pie and more pie. A nice long story with my favorite cliché of pining!Sheppard and oblivious!Rodney :) Covers a lot of time, with pie in various forms and flavors tying the whole thing together. Beware, you'll be wanting pie when you finish reading it.

Tied to the Rocket (Team Work): Another long one that tricked me – starting out as an AU with John and Rodney meeting while young and falling into lust and then distance breaking them down because they FAIL to communicate. And then working back into canon with much angst and no immediate resolution while you are screaming at them to just TALK, PLEASE!

Circle Yes or No (Team Play): Taking a vacation and dealing with family and nothing is ever easy as that when John talks Rodney into 'playing' as his boyfriend because his brother assumes he is. LOL. Much comedy of errors ensues.

A Fate So Sweet (Team Work): Woo Baby! Smoking hot long kinky BDSM fic with many issues handled with deft care. Not only some great sex, but also in a steampunky world!

Dreaming (Team Play): Art. And Rodney's mind heads into the gutter as fast as mine :) LOL.

Rapid Descent (Team Work): Art. Amazing detail, interesting camera angle and some kick ass perspective and deft coloring.

Please support the fest – read, vote, comment!!

Yes, I seem to be working backward here. I missed the 1st day of the con (Thur) due to work and travel time. Of the 5 secondary actors, I'd seen all but one. So that was okay.

The first official day for me was Friday and first up was Andee Frizzell aka The Wraith Queens! LOL. Andee is a very animated person, and talked about how she ends up doing a lot of prosthetic work in various shows 'what's wrong with this face!' she moaned jokingly. I can see why actually, she's very good at expressions, and that'll come through. She also said she had the right temperament too - the ability to fall asleep in the makeup chair and to be able to take several makeup people around her without feeling out of sorts. Though this worked against her as no one recognizes her OUT of makeup since she's there and in makeup way before anyone else arrives.

Andee told several stories - the funniest one was the stunt in Submersion where the wraith queen came out of the water. Bam-Bam has asked her how long she could hold her breath, then decided she could do the stunt - and they all forgot about all the makeup she was wearing. So she had to come up slowly while the foam on her face was trying to pop off, her fake hair was tied to her belt and giving her a weggie and she was wearing leather.. which was shrinking..... LOL.

She was asked her favorite outfit - and she was like - 'that little snazzy traveling outfit' (in the video that was shown) from Allies I think, because it was comfortable spandex - and not leather. She also said that her wraith 'second' in that episode was a close friend and was really getting into the whole wraith commentary and was whispering stuff like 'oh, I'm going to get me a snack, yum, yum, oh, he's tasty' as they were walking and she had to keep a straight face.

She also made a comment on the fact that the wraith queens kept getting more ... busty as the seasons went on. She has NO idea why they decided that 'oh, lets give her more bust' become the idea of the day.

When asked to ‘act like a wraith queen’ she did this. I only caught this one shot (she moved forward on the stage and I had to re-focus and pull back my zoom). This has NOT been altered. The strong light is from all the flashes going off from the front of the room. Totally cool, right?!

Christopher Heyerdahl was on Saturday as well. Todd the Wraith, as well as being on Sanctuary, Supernatural and Twilight! He's getting quite the work as a villain. And he LOVES doing it. I chatted with him some at the desert party later that night, and he just enjoys the challenge of a conflicted dark character much more than being a 'hero'.

He's a really nice, kind of quiet guy with an interesting vocal range. People, of course, asked him to do the wraith voice - and let me tell you - it's not all special effects!

Chris talked about how long makeup was to do on both SGA and Sanctuary. That he really, really wanted the John Druitt part on Sanctuary but thought for sure it was going to 'some good looking young guy from LA'. Currently he's working on Sanctuary till November - they just started filming fairly recently and have a long way to go, as this season is longer. He talked a little about how hard it was to scramble each year to get financing, but that he loves working on the show.

He talked some about the SGA VEGAS episode and how the lighting effect added to the creepyness of what he was doing with Alt!Todd.

He was asked about how safe he felt filming the torture scene in Supernatural and he talked about some of the precautions then went through. He said that really, it was three days of filming and he never felt uneasy. He also joked that Alistair's safe word was "more". LOL!

Rachel Luttrell was on the final day. I've been to several cons where she was speaking and she's always sweet and nice. During the photo op she was 'good to see you again!' to me. Even if our shirts clashed horribly - her purple checked to my blue floral!

The soft tones of her voice and the way she talks - all is very reminiscent of Teyla.

She started off telling us of her adventures in moving from Vancouver to LA and that she was working on a CD (which people have been asking her about for a while now) and in planning for a series she hopes to do with Connor Trinneer.

First question was could she sing something. She laughed and said 'and I have something prepared this time'. She has such a lovely singing voice.

Other questions were on how her son took her to being in makeup (didn't faze him at all), jokes played on the set (she finally got the chair name panel back from Jason), that she stayed in touch with her former castmates and enjoyed hanging out with them, that she had dancer training and a lot of hard work to learn all the stick fighting and of some of the accidents that had happened.

One thing I hadn't known, that she was on "probation" for the first 10 episodes because someone 'higher up in the network' wanted a pet person in the role and were waiting for her to make a mistake. She had the crew and rest of the actors on her side though and made the character her own.

She had only talked a little while when her son wanted on stage and in her lap, where he sat extremely quietly as she answered questions. She laughed 'This is Caden. You wouldn't expect me to have a blonde hair, blue eyed child!' She talked that he'd been on a number of sets with her husband and knew how to act on them.

I got a lot of good pictures of Rachel because she sat pretty still and didn't move around a lot. Here's a sampling of them.

After David had been onstage for half an hour or so, Joe came on stage (from right behind the chair) without announcement. I didn't catch that because I was focused in close on David with my zoom. They greeted each other, did a pose together to the tune of 100's of flashblubs (my pic of that is SUPER BLURRRY :( ...). Joe sat down and they chatted together, David making no move to leave the stage. Creation had to convince him off. We were all like ... awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!... to which they replied, he'll be back soon!

LOL! If only they knew.

Joe started talking, and David kept poking his head in from behind the curtain 'is it time yet?', then he'd go away for a few more minutes. Then poke back 'is it time yet?'. LOL. Finally he just came onstage after maybe 15 minutes? It wasn't very long. There was someone asking Joe a question and David literally POUTED 'I'll just be over HERE'. It was too funny. (and Joe pouted if a question was asked of David and not him).

It was a real hassle trying to photograph both of them. They didn't stand all the close and they constantly walked past each other. Joe would sit or walk around the chair. David never sat down. They also went off on huge tangents, never quite answering any question asked. And after 5 or more minutes would get back to 'oh, did that answer your question?'. LOL.

After photo ops, other Stargate guests and assorted other stuff going on it was finally the main 'event' (as far as I was concerned) near the end of the day - Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett on stage TOGETHER!!!!! Oh yes. Creation was going to do them both solo, then together on stage.

David was on first. He immediately started on about editing software, new laptops (that he got a new one when the old one got 'dusty'), that Jane currently had a better laptop than him. Asked opinions on Solid-State drives that got him various shouted answers and had a girl quiz him on needing a chart to decide 'nerd, geek or dork'. It became a running joke on 'hey, need that chart'. He also went on about twitter, conditions in Bulgaria and evil snow monkeys. He might have taken a breath in there. This was like 10 minutes solid of him talking, then it was like, oh, you got any questions? LOL.

The evil snow monkey film does not have a name yet. It might not even be a film. It all depends on if he can edit it into one. There were some problems - like having to film with no snowmobiles and faking it because the snowmobiles didn't show up.

uhm... he was asked some other questions .... here - look at pics!

I asked him about his shirt at the photo-ops - he said Baz likes helicopters, so he's wearing lots of shirts with them on it.

Well this is pretty much it for my decent pics of Joe & David together. I have some more I'm going through that are blurry in some part, but have some good expressions.
