Ah yes, the wonders of living in CA, sometimes the earth moves. This was a super short 'jolt' quake. I was less than a second long. Just enough to make one jump and the house to squeak, but nothing rattled, shook or swayed . It was stronger up in LA basin, but down here in lower CA, very weak. But strong enough to be felt even for how short it was, so I knew it was a decent magnitude.

For those who don't know - quakes almost always (95% of the time) start off with a 'jolt' feeling. It sort of feels like what happens when jerking awake from a falling dream to me. The 'jolt' is then, usually followed by the rest of the quake - either a rolling feeling or a shaking feeling, which is often stronger and much longer than the original jolt. The jolt always gets my attention, and prepares one for what follows. I was all braced for the follow up here..... and nothing. hmm... strange.
