Day two – or panels, panels and more panels.
I wanted to see what they were going to say at the Stargate Universe panel. And it was the first one of the day. I was also interested in another panel in the same room later in the day. I had originally planned (hah hah), to see the SGU panel, do a book signing then get back in the room later in the day. Yea, that wasn’t a plan that was going to work. I was also thinking I might try for the autograph lottery for SGU – again… no luck in lotteries vs getting in the room – and then having to leave the room and miss the other panel I wanted.
So, since I had some people to panel-sit WITH (which makes ALL the difference in the world), and we could agree on which panels we wanted, it was Ballroom 20 all day basically. Luckily all the panels in between the two I wanted were various TV shows I am familiar with, have watched and sort of like, even if I’m not fannish about them. I’ve had to, in past years, sit through some horror panels with my eyes closed.
I got to the con around 9am. Later than I wanted. My panel buds were there at 8am. I had to go through the massive line up to get INTO the room - 4,000 people - it was quite a line. But, my buds had my spot - 4th row from the FRONT! WHEEEEE! And center tooo! And I had my new camera - so high-fives all around. I ended up taking over 200 pictures.
So - Stargate Universe followed by: Caprica/Battlestar, The Big Bang Theory, 24 and finally Bones. We left after Bones to hit the dealers room for the Bones signing (I scored tickets almost by accident on Thur just walking by). Then it was another line and a crush of people for the autograph, met some friends for dinner then back to the con for the Syfy friday programming - Eureka and Warehouse 13 episodes.
SGU. HUGE panel. I took a lot of photos. I must say…. Most of them of Ming-Na. Man.. she’s one classy lady!! Not only knew how to hold herself in front of a crowd taking pictures, but great to listen to. I took pictures of the two other ladies on the cast – and in 90% of them, they’ve got bored, strange or painful expressions on their faces.
I think I’m looking forward to seeing more of Ming-Na

I also took a number with David Blue, as a geek – he was having a great time at the con and wanted to field every question and gush.

Robert Carlyle – wow, what an accent! I forget – gotta watch the Full Monty again. Anyway, he was basically sitting slumped and never took the dark glasses off. Must have partied too hard last night!

I have pics of the most of the rest of the cast - and Wright and Cooper... but I need to get to BED! More later. If you have specific requests... leave a comment.
Caprica/Battlestar panel. Edward J. Olmos is great to listen to.

Surprise guest – Grace Park showed up.

Big Bang Theory. I got some okay shots. Hard to get these three with all of them nice expressions. I have a number of great ones of Jim P. alone that came out good. I was ending up focusing on him a lot as he was asked a number of questions – and talked more in the panel.

24 panel. HUGE panel. I got a few pics. Hard to get one of Kiefer, he sat at the farthest end from me. The only reason he didn’t come out dark like all the others who sat on that side in other panels, the number of flashes from the gaggle of press that basically camped out on that side.

I didn’t know Katee was going to be in S8 of 24! She looks so different with long hair! She was complaining at the panel that she wanted to shoot someone, give her a gun – please! (she’s a computer programmer/nerd type on the show)

Bones panel. David Boreanaz didn’t make it (wife is expecting soon, wanted to stay close). Got a number of very nice pictures of Emily. Another very classy lady. The SMALLEST panel – only two of them (and the moderator who stood at the podium.)

Big Bang Theory Autograph signing at the WB. I was next booth over for the Bones signing. It was a sea of people.

The Gaslamp draws all sorts. I’m going to try and get a picture of the crowds that just fill the streets one day.

Tomorrow - I'm going to have to carry around both camera's. The larger one is EXCELLENT for panels - but when dealing with the dealers room crush, taking a lens cap off, using both hands (two hands? you need that other hand?) and not getting it CRUSHED when in a crowd - just isn't happening. I found it much easier to handle my little point-n-shoot small digitial that I can have in one hand, one button, no lens cap and can swing on my wrist instead of needing to be around my neck.
bedbedbedbed. I'm going to be crawling tomorrow!
