Uses for a cell phone # 51

use it to find your car in the blackness of a cave of the underground parking garage when in the middle of a city wide/major/uber major blackout.

Wow it was dark. The stairways had emergency lighting, but NONE in the garage. Luckily I park close to the stairs, and know the garage well, but even so - yikes!

So yea, major city wide blackout. Like the entire county of SD is dark. Power is still off. I'm lucky in #1 - I filled my gas tank last night and #2 - my next door neighbor owns a generator, so there is laptop charging. And even if my cell phone isn't working, my USB modem is getting a tiny bit of service - so yay. To the minor words of yay. Also, I send in my AtlantisBigBang piece last night. I was hoping to work on another today..... but this power outage is expected to last more than a day - so probably not much chance at all of doing that :(

What is the cause of the outage? Did you use the lighted screen from your phone to find your car? How'd you manage to post this? Hope this resolves soon!

they don't know the cause. they keep saying 'disruption' of service. I have a flip phone, so I held it open and swung it in front of me, and walked very slowly to my car. barely little light, but it was like super, super, pitch black in the garage.

I have a USB laptop cellphone modem - so even though I've got 1 bar, I can get a slow connection. Like anyone who's currently using their phone web function. Which is probably why the regular phone service is not working. It's so strange, I can surf, people can use twitter/fb/email, but can't call anyone.

Twitter is all abuzz this morning about it being an 'employee generated outage'! If that's true, someone is SO fired! :-0
