5 colors a day
3 August 2007 14:59My chiropractor is Mr. Health Food nut. He's always got a different lecture each week, and questions he quizzes you on. Of course, when I told him my blood sugar was bad, he *tisked* at me and told me I wasn't paying enough attention. Yea, okay, he has been advertising against white bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar, pop, etc for a while.
::sigh:: Like I said, disgustingly healthy. Some times his quiz is asking people how many times they go to the gym - and convincing for more. Actually, its nice to have someone who's living that way, not someone who's doing lip service. He tells you what he does, and believes, and always has new info, new ideas, new handouts, etc.
Last week it was that one should be eating a salad a day. Something I wasn't quite doing. Okay, I was doing several a week - but not every day. (then)
This week... that one needs to be eating, every day, 5 different colors of fruit/veggies. Uhm. Okay, I fail that one. I usually have green, and orange and sometimes red most days. But Blue/Purple? And yellow?
So, another thing to work on. More different COLORS of veggies! ARGH!

Date: 4 Aug 2007 00:44 (UTC)And it is good anyway, my uncle has diabetes and it runs in my family, so I may have had give it up sooner or later anyway.

Date: 4 Aug 2007 03:36 (UTC)Oh, I suck at all the healthy things, too...! But really, there is so much more attention being paid to better eating these days it's easier to find things that you'll like that are healthier than the old stuff...
Try and switch to whole grain pastas, for instance... So it's not a cold-turkey on all the good starchy foods!
When I was first diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, I freaked and cut out a lot of stuff... The up-side was that I dropped 15 pounds! Yay. I've since fallen off and on the wagon... but I try not to beat myself up for it--it doesn't help anyway! Just trying to be better about eating and exercising--and making the effort at least, is better than continuing down the wrong path!
I wish I'd had more warning before I actually had to go on medication, though! In retrospect, I did know I wasn't being healthy, but figured I could let it slide. Well--WRONG!!!
So just make an effort to be better and see how it goes. It's a shock at first, but that's good, since it's a big motivation to change. After that you can settle into something that you can live with...
It's actually FAR much less of a restriction than people who have their stomache stapled or banded or whatever!!! It's really just normal, healthy eating. ... Instead of just eating all the bad stuff all the time. It's really not so horrible. And you can have the stuff you like--just smaller amounts and less frequently. So don't despair!!!
