The long promised review - only two weeks late :) heh.
Okay, I'm a fairly easy movie reviewer, either I liked it or I didn't. This Harry Potter movie is definitely a good one. Lots of action, lots of little bits and a quick climax. Ron is a more of a whiney lutz than usual (Hermionie and Harry really need to smack him.) But then, that was true in the books. I didn't miss the whole house-elf subplot (thank god it was gone!).
I liked the dragon sequence - the CG artists had WAY too much fun with the dragon crawling around Hogwarts - but it was good. The lake/mermaid sequence was good. The only disappointing bit in the three tasks was the maze one. They animated it like it was just a living maze, without the things they needed spells to get past in the book.
The final bit with Voldemort was also shortened, but still very strong. EVIL RISES! (insert evil cackle)
My one quibble was a very jerky edit/cut from the Quiddich match beginning to suddenly it was over and they were celebrating in the tent. What?? I hope that was just a last minute scene cut, though it was annoying, and I think more should have been there.
My favorite movie of the Harry Potter ones is still the 3rd one. I LOVE that book, and I like the way it was filmed, that little bits you see again from a different angle with the time travel. #4 here is a close 2nd though.
