winter_elfI can head home soon. The mandatory evacuation is in the process of being lifted. Differing news reports depending on where one checks, but we're just at the edge of the zone being talked about, so soon!!
House is fine. Again, thank god. The guys on the property managed to stay and keep the roof wet. Like I mentioned, really there is a lot of cleared area around us and they've filled in the canyons and wild land that use to be around us. Now covered by development, a high school and a fire station. Yes, a fire station and a high school on fill dirt over what use to be a canyon.
The fire went North of us, down the river valley area leading down to the Fairgrounds. The biggest worry was sparks, but they managed to keep the advance of the fire far enough back that while it did damage to a large number of the homes in Rancho Santa Fe, it was mostly in the canyons. A big reason was the winds dying down. We would have been in a lot more trouble if the winds had kept going.
Gads, my poor kitties will be glad to get home. They've both been freaked, barely eating and hiding. Thank goodness for friends offering a place to stay. I can't even imagine heading to a shelter with my kitties. Of course, I would have, but they, especially the timid kitty Eowyn, would have taken being confined for two days even harder!
A huge thankyou to my friend Ailene who put up with me since Monday afternoon, taking over her house, feeding me and putting up with me freaking out.
