Volks Dolpha
25 November 2007 21:50Another weekend out of town, eating too much AND spending money. Groan. I'm such a BAD girl!
Anyway, the Dolpha was a ton of fun. Smallish at just under 300 people (I think), it was a nice size without being unmanageable, the hotel was nice, the food was excellent, the prizes were stunning and fun was had all around. I had my laptop with, and checked email several times, but didn't post.
Held at the LA Airport Hilton in one of the lower ballrooms, I sort of liked the 'away from the crowds' feeling of being in an area that one had to go to with intent, rather than more obvious portions of the hotel and dealing all the time with stares and traffic.
The first day/evening was pretty relaxed with check in, set up, FCS ordering (which I didn't do) and chatting, followed in the late afternoon/evening with the dinner party, costume contest, one-of model auctions and lottery give-aways. I dressed up three of my dolls as a Kill Bill group with O-ren, Go-Go and a Crazy 88. A lot of people said they loved Go-Go (my SD10 Kurumi) with a custom made weapon by Ailene.
Ailene actually won 'best artist' award for her entry of The Addams Family represented by Morticia, Pugsley, and Wednesday with a ton of props including Thing in a box that played the theme song! Not only the trophy but a Sei-Tenshi as well! ::jealous::
There were about 11 one-off models. Some very nice - several Sd16 girls, one yo-sd and no mini's. I was weak (I don't need another doll) and put in for the Sd13 girl F-34 in white skin in a white elf-like dress. I didn't win, but man, I think I want that F-34 head!
A large number of lottery prizes were given away, but no one at our table won anything. We told Ailene she sucked out all the luck. Excellent food was consumed and lots of pictures were taken! Then it was time to head out for more doll meets and chatting.
Next day was up early and down early to get in line for the market open. I wanted a few of the items, and actually did manage to get the one thing from the web-site I wanted the most, so that was good... and a lot of OTHER stuff as well. ::cough:: Uhm.. I was bad, very, very bad. Lots of clothes and jewelry for dolls who do not need anymore!
I'd post pics.. but Susan borrowed my camera, and I forgot to get it back. I should get pics up in a few days.
And my kitties are both now trying to fight each other for my lap, so I should go give them a little loving.
