Att says I can't have high speed :(

Here I go through all the hoops to order DSL (finally) - can't get cable at my location (it's across the street and no cable strung closer than 4 miles) - place the order, order and get the equipment, get the extension cords, get email with delay date, get computer fixed... then get an email saying my 'order is cancelled'? WTF? Why? no explanation, just it's cancelled, with a polite, 'thanks for ordering' line and a 'you can't reply to this email. And of course, everything is closed for the weekend.

So frustrated! Why? What do I do with this equipment they are charging me for??!!!?

And on top of that, this stupid cold keeps hanging on. ::sigh::

Oh, I got terribly pissed at SBC (now AT&T again) for bugging me CONSTANTLY about getting DSL. So, a couple years ago, when I finally decided to bite the bullet and order it, they set me all up with an appointment and everything.

The next day I called them back to confirm something (the appointment time, total cost, I can't recall what) only to have THAT technician tell me that I couldn't get DSL in my area! WTF!

Too bad my cable company is almost as bad. AT&T has been sending me advertisements for their new "U-verse" service, which is supposed to be a cable connection, in direct competition with my cable provider. (Yeah for competition!) I'm just afraid if I call them, they will say, "U-verse? What's that?"

I think they are ALL idiots! But if we get some real competition in the area, it can only help. I hope?

Why don't you get a cable modem?

The same reason I had to get satellite tv when I moved in. Cable MUST be physically strung in the area. They did not bring it across the street when they paved the street, and the nearest on this side of the street is a mile or more north. In order to get cable, several thousand dollars of tearing up a road. Uhm. No.

Honest to god, I think they do it on purpose
