They lifted the evacuation this morning for my area! Though I didn't head home till the afternoon. Took time having breakfast, watching TV and doing a few little errands like the bank and post office before I headed back up the freeway to Del Mar. Ailene came with to help unload my poor car.
The air was much clearer than Sunday and Monday in this area when it was a huge smoky foglike bank. Still a little hazy, but then there are still fires burning! But far from me in the mountains. Not good for those up there... but I've had enough of a scare for one year!
House is fine. House is a MESS! Oh god, I threw stuff all over the place. Not only that, it's pretty amazing what I'd managed to stuff into my little car. Okay, not tiny, but it's a Toyota Corolla, which is considered a compact. Hauled my stuff up the stairs and sat and stared at it while I considered the huge task of not only putting away but organizing as well. Groan.
First, I dealt with was the computer. Gads, all the wires/cords etc that one has to attach! I wanna a laptop! Anyway, got it connected.. and the monitor would not turn on!! OMG. I had a 'spare' - ie an older monitor that I haven't managed to find a computer waste recycler for yet. Yes, too many old computer parts that one can't throw away and can't give to anyone so they end up sitting there.
Spare monitor worked, but it turned on funky and has now screwed up some settings!!! ARGH!! Computers are a PAIN-IN-THE-A$$!! Only thing I can really do is get on-line. So I guess that's something. Time to buy a new monitor in a few days. Maybe that'll re-set the settings.

Date: 25 Oct 2007 06:25 (UTC)Monitors are sensitive creatures. I suggest messing with the power cord and the connection cable. If either is just a tiny bit loose, no monitor. Sometimes it takes a bit of time. I've had this problem with both monitors I've had, and both were top of the line. Good luck with it!

Date: 26 Oct 2007 02:13 (UTC)And having a laptop would make life slightly easier--although there's still an amazing amount of cables and connections you'd have to deal with... (can't seem to get away with those... although going wireless would help (I have yet to do that!).
I'm SO glad you're back at home, though. Don't envy you sorting everything out and putting stuff away, but then, I'm sure it'll be all nice when it's done!
